Until now, MetaMagic's main job in Lightroom was straightforward: analyse a photo and generate useful IPTC keywords, a title and a caption. Those fields are still generated exactly as before. MetaMagic 1.6.1.0 adds something different alongside them: a structured record of what the vision AI sees in the image.
The result appears in a dedicated MetaMagic AI metadata panel in Lightroom Classic. The same classification data can also be used to organize photographs automatically into Collections, giving large catalogs a visual browsing layer without changing the normal IPTC workflow.
What the new MetaMagic AI panel can store
The structured analysis is split into categories instead of being mixed into one long keyword list. Depending on what the image contains, MetaMagic can return:
- Labels — objects, activities, scene types and visual concepts, with confidence scores where available.
- Landmarks — recognized monuments and notable places, with conservative confidence handling.
- Locations — reliable city, region and country context.
- Logos — recognizable brands, services and visible logos.
- Faces / expressions — visible face count and broad expression information; no identity recognition.
- Visible Text — meaningful OCR text detected in the photograph.
- Safety — a neutral general content-safety classification.
- Dominant Colors — up to ten visually important colors with approximate hex values and image share.
Automatic AI Collections inside Lightroom
Structured data becomes much more useful when you can browse it. MetaMagic 1.6.1 can maintain Lightroom Collections under a configurable MetaMagic AI root. The structure can include All Classified plus category groups such as Labels, Landmarks, Locations, Logos, Faces, Safety, Text and Dominant Colors.
This organization does not move or duplicate your original photographs. It gives the existing Lightroom catalog an additional AI-driven browsing layer while leaving the normal folder structure and IPTC metadata untouched.
Confidence-aware classification
Labels, landmarks and logos can include confidence scores. Landmark coordinates are handled conservatively and are only returned when the visual identification is reliable enough. The goal is useful catalog data without turning weak guesses into precise-looking facts.
It does not replace your normal metadata
The new visual layer is additional information. Your regular Lightroom workflow remains intact: title, caption, keywords, IPTC location, language controls, Special AI Instructions, Metadata Review and Batch Review continue to work as before.
The classifications are generated alongside the regular metadata in the same image analysis, so you do not need to run a separate visual-classification job after generating your title, caption and keywords.
Choose the Collection structure you need
The MetaMagic Control Center lets you choose the Collection root and which classification categories should participate in catalog organization. Alphabetical grouping can also be used for categories that may grow very large, such as Labels, Landmarks and Logos.
A travel photographer may care most about Locations and Landmarks. A commercial photographer may want Logos and Text. A large personal archive may benefit from Labels, Faces, Dominant Colors and a simple All Classified view. You decide which parts are useful for your own catalog.
How to use the new workflow
Configure the AI Collection options in the MetaMagic Control Center, select photographs in Lightroom Classic and generate metadata as usual. After processing, inspect the MetaMagic AI panel for the structured result and browse the MetaMagic AI Collection root for the organization created from it.
