Introducing MetaMagic Desktop
for Windows.
AI photo metadata for any editor — written straight into your files, with no upload and no download.
For a long time, MetaMagic had one home: Lightroom Classic. If you keyworded inside Lightroom, the plugin fit perfectly. But plenty of photographers don't live in Lightroom — they cull in Photo Mechanic, edit in Capture One, browse in Bridge, or organize in ON1. For them, the only option was the web app: upload, generate, download a ZIP, unpack it, move the files back. It worked, but it was a round-trip.
Today that changes. MetaMagic Desktop for Windows brings the full power of AI metadata to a standalone app that works with any editor — and does the whole job right inside your own folders.
What it does
MetaMagic Desktop reads your photos with state-of-the-art vision AI and writes complete IPTC metadata back into the files: descriptive keywords, a clean title, a natural caption, and location fields pulled from GPS. Everything is saved in the standard IPTC/XMP format, so it shows up automatically in whatever software you use next.
- AI keywords — specific and accurate, not generic "bird, sky, nature" labels.
- Titles & captions — in standard or editorial (AP / Reuters) format.
- Location from GPS — city, state and country filled in automatically.
- Unlimited batches — point it at a folder of thousands and walk away.
The part that makes it effortless
Here's the difference that matters most: MetaMagic Desktop edits the metadata of your photos in place. The files never move, you never upload them, and there's nothing to download afterwards. You open a folder, hit generate, and your originals are tagged — same names, same location, ready for the next step.
On the desktop: open the folder → generate. That's it.
It's a small thing that changes the whole feeling of the tool. Keywording stops being a project and becomes a single click on a folder you already have open.
Works with the tools you already use
Because MetaMagic Desktop writes standard IPTC, you don't need it to "integrate" with anything. The metadata is simply in the file. Open that file in Capture One and it appears in the Metadata tool. Cull it in Photo Mechanic and your keywords are there. Browse it in Bridge, ON1, digiKam, or even Windows Explorer — the tags travel with the photo, everywhere.
And if you do live in Lightroom, nothing changes: the Lightroom Classic plugin is still here and still the smoothest way to work inside the catalog. The desktop app is simply a second door into the same room.
One account, shared credits
MetaMagic Desktop uses the same account and the same credits as the plugin and the web app. Register once, and your free generations and any credits you buy work everywhere. Credits never expire, there's no subscription, and the app auto-updates so you always have the latest version.
Private by design
Because the work happens on your own machine, your originals stay with you. Only a small resized preview is sent to generate the metadata — your full-resolution files are never uploaded, never stored, and never used for AI training.
Try it free
The Windows app is available now, and new accounts get 20 free generations to try it on their own photos. If you've been waiting for a way to use MetaMagic outside Lightroom — this is it.
